2010 Umpire Rules Tests

All umpires must pass an annual rules test based on the level of play they officiate:
  • U13 Modified Only = Youth Rules Test (50 questions)
  • U19 Only = USL Rules Test (50 questions) + Youth Questions (10 questions)
  • U19 and College = USL Rules Test (50 questions) + NCAA Questions (10 questions)
  • All Levels = USL Rules Test (50 questions) + NCAA Questions (10 questions) + Youth Questions (10 questions)

Most boards are encouraging umpires to take the online version of the test. The paper versions that are provided below are for reference and preparation purposes prior to taking the online test. Please check with your local board chair for the preferred testing method.

Starting out in Stripes DVD – Editor’s Notes
Since the time that Starting Out in Stripes, US Lacrosse’s training DVD for women’s lacrosse officials, was originally produced, several important rule changes have been introduced in women's lacrosse (most notably, hard boundaries and mandatory protective eye wear). This DVD is still a valuable introduction to umpiring the women's game, but you should refer to your current USL Rulebook for Women’s Lacrosse and WDOC Umpire Manual for the most recent rule updates and clarification. Click here to purchase your copy of this valuable instructional tool.

US Lacrosse suggests that the most effective use of this DVD would be in discussion with an experienced umpire who has been involved in the game over the last several years. Alternately, click here for the Editor’s Notes (pdf) which can be used in conjunction with viewing this DVD.
